What's a mixture?

Hey there!

Today we have a new lesson of science.

So we have here the mixtures. First of all, we need to understand that we need two or more elements, that we put together in a place. This creates a mixture.

For example, if we put in bowl milk and crispies we have a mixture.

There are different kinds of mixture:

Homogeneous mixture: when we mix freeze fruit (peach for example) and yogurt, and we blend it, we get ice cream, this is a homogenous mixture because we can't see the different elements.

Heterogeneous mixture: when we cook a fruit salad we see the different elements, so we call it a heterogeneous mixture because we can see the different elements.

Solution: this is an especial case of a homogeneous mixture because one of the elements has to be a liquid. For example when we mix water with salt, and this one is dissolved in the water and we can't see it. The elements of this mixture have different names, the liquid is called the solvent, and the other component is called the solute. In the previous example, the water is the solvent and the salt the solute.

Homework: Mixture detectives.

Look around your house and find as many mixtures you can and classify them into homogeneous, heterogenous or solutions. You can write them down in a computer document.
